This a recording from the upcoming PineCone CD Release, “Going Down to Raleigh: Stringband Music in the North Carolina Piedmont 1976-1998,” which features 48 old-time regional stringband dance tunes and songs highlighting some of the best traditional music of Piedmont region. Hook and Line Joe Thompson – fiddle and vocal, Odell Thompson – banjo and vocal. Recorded 1988 by Wayne Martin and Wes Lachot. Joe Thompson (b. 1918) and Odell Thompson (1911-1994) were first cousins who grew up on farms near the Alamance-Orange County line north of Mebane. Family stories say that their grandfather, Robert, born into slavery on a Person County plantation, played the fiddle. His sons John Arch, Walter and Jacob played fiddle and banjo. Neighbors, both African American and white, called upon Walter and John Arch Thompson, to provide music for square dances. As a boy, Odell chose a fiddle as a premium prize for selling forty packs of chewing gum. After playing the fiddle for several years, he gravitated to guitar after his older brother purchased one. Joe had also taken up fiddling at a young age and he and his brothers performed at Saturday-night dances with his father and uncle. He recalls taking his position in the doorway between rooms filled with dancing couples. “We were playing [four- and eight-hand square dance] sets—I was only seven years old. We had straight chairs and my feet couldn’t touch the floor. And we were running them folks, man, a half an hour.” As popular tastes in

Angie is an American television sitcom that was originally broadcast by the ABC network from February 1979 until October 1980. Starring Donna Pescow as the title character, the program was set in Philadelphia. The story revolved around one-time waitress Angie Falco Benson, her extremely wealthy new husband and former customer Brad Benson (played by Robert Hays), and the couple’s two very different families: the blue-blooded Bensons and the urban Italian-American Falcos. Doris Roberts and Debralee Scott played Angie’s mother Theresa and sister, Marie, respectively. A young Tammy Lauren played Brad’s niece, Hilary; while actress Sharon Spelman played her overbearing mother, Joyce. Actor John Randolph played Brad and Joyce’s stuffy father, Randall. The show was a mid-season ratings hit during its first half-season on air. It ranked fifth for the 1978-79 season, thanks in big part to Thursday night lead-in Mork & Mindy, which ranked No. 3. However, ratings dropped drastically after a move to Tuesday for the start of the 1979-80 season, even though the show immediately followed the top-five hit Happy Days. Viewers lost interest in the interplay between the two lead characters after they were married in the season premiere, and many critics noted that much of the previously feisty chemistry that Pescow and Hays demonstrated on screen was apparently compromised once their characters were wed. The show was cancelled in its second season. 36 episodes in total were produced. Reruns

OH, SLEEPER Lucas Starr Interview about new Son Of The Morning CD An empowering call-to-arms descends upon the weak-minded, the undecided, the superficially concerned with the arrival of Son Of The Morning, the new album from OH, SLEEPER. On the followup to their When I Am God debut, these Texan lads obliterate any notions of the “sophomore slump” with an alarming urgency sure to excite anyone with even a cursory interest in bands like Underoath, Slipknot or Dillinger Escape Plan. Oh, Sleeper has crafted a concept album detailing the final battle between the devil (with Micah Kinard screaming in character on the title track) and God (with Kinard answering on “The Finisher,” which closes the record) from start to finish. Produced by Andreas Magnusson (Black Dahlia Murder), Oh, Sleeper’s Son Of The Morning is poised to turn 2009 upside down. Triangle Sun @ Mantra, Kiev, Ukraine, billboard party, live concert 15 September Triangle sun is a project with three musicians, the founder and ideologist in which is Sasha Kniazev, he is a composer, arranger and multiinstrumentalist. One day his interest to music grew out of love to only one instrument (guitar) and he began to use synthesizers, computers and other devices to create electronic music. After meeting Vadim Kapustin, the owner of a great voice and a person with ability to form beautiful poetic compositions in English, the project began to sparkle with new colors. Though the collective was fully set after Garik Gagarin., the famous musician and producer of club scene has entered the group. After their steady victory in Lounge Music Festival, Triangle sun went on tour to Cafe’ del Mar on Ibiza, in festival Global Gathering in London and other countries in Europe and near abroad. Imagine you’re PARAPLEGIC, this space is made for your ride. Do you see these spaces that were made for “disabled persons” now unmarked? Your custom automobile made to give your freedom. Retrofitted with the automatic ramp that safely supports you, you in your electric wheelchair, smiling, you glide up to your only source of freedom: The Vehicle made for you. The electric wheelchair made for YOUR hand, your delicate fingers that cannot lift big things, can guide the power of a 300 lb wheelchair, rolling you up to the inside of your own motor vehicle, where freedom lives… so you get to to drive like everybody else. And you go… trips to the store, to work, to the beach, the motor vehicle that gives keys to the music of living, of going, the sensation of motion… which frees you from a confined life. Then one day the Universal Symbol for Disabled Persons disappears fresh paint covers the once shining symbol of freedom meant for you in this case, it has become painted bright white, leaving only the blue side stripes, which were put there in the first place as a condition of getting approval to build the building. Shall the building be condemned since it is in breech of code? You were yelled at, and told to park where there is no additional side space for your electric ramp, no space for the van, no place for you! Just this year, that’s 000 spent on a little one bedroom apartment, an agreement made on the condition that the space would be years for the entire time you
